The kids are just learning about refraction (we devoted about 45 minutes the day before). I feel like this problem gets at why
Snell’s ibn Sahl’s Law is useful. We play it all CSI-style in class, like they’re solving some kind of big mystery.
What was the warmup in 7th period?
For two of my classes, today was day 2 of refraction. For them, they got this warmup:
I got the image online rather than draw it myself — immediate problem! Most kids didn’t recognize that these are not the incident and refracted angles. Maybe later I’d like this problem better, but on day 2’s warmup, it’s too much, IMHO.
