Day 15: Library Research

The musical instrument project is in full swing. My teammates and I opted to make this project include a research paper. Meanwhile, our library is being renovated and the librarians are holing up in the basement of another building. So I asked my librarian to come to each class with a cart of reserve books and an online research guide to help the kids in their quest.

She taught them about searching authoritative sources such as paid databases and books, how to cite such sources in MLA style, and how to use the internet better to their advantage.

One group of students today showed me a website I hadn’t seen before: the DIY Instrument Maker. Everyone’s excited about building stringed or wind instruments to show off their understanding of the physics of music.
